1. How long does it take to get to Mawimbi, from Cancun Airport?
BY GROUND (Automobile/Ferry/Golf Cart Taxi)
• The drive from Cancun airport to Chiquila takes approximately 2 hours.
• The ferry from Chiquila to Holbox runs every 30 minutes, and takes approximately 30 minutes.
• The golf cart taxi ride from the ferry to Mawimbi takes approximately 10 minutes.
BY AIR (Flight/Golf Cart Taxi))
• A charter flight will take approximately 30 minutes from Cancun airport to Holbox airport.
• The golf cart taxi ride from Holbox airport to Mawimbi takes approximately 10 minutes.
BY BUS
• The bus ride from Cancun airport to Chiquila takes approximately 2.5 to 3 hours.

2. Do the roads flood on Holbox?
On Holbox, our roads are made of sand, and some of these roads become flooded when it rains. This usually does not prevent our guests from enjoying their stay at Mawimbi. If you’re concerned, you may wish to schedule your trip to Holbox during the region’s dryer months.
3. Does Mawimbi accept US dollars?
Yes, at Mawimbi we accept US currency.
4. Should I bring Méxican Pesos?
2. Yes. We strongly recommend bringing at least some pesos with you.
• There are 2 ATMs on the island which disperse pesos, but they run out of cash often.
• Most restaurants and shops do not accept foreign cash. If they do, there will likely be a service fee.
• Many restaurants and shops accept credit cards, however there is often a service fee.
• Some restaurants and shops, including street and beach vendors, do not accept credit cards.
5. When is the best time to swim with whale sharks?
Whale shark season in Holbox typically runs from mid-May to mid-September, with the peak months being July and August. We recommend visiting during the peak months for your best opportunity to swim with whale sharks.
6. Can I flush toilet paper down the toilet?
No, please do not flush toilet paper down the toilet.
• All of our rooms have bidets, and covered trash cans for toilet paper disposal.
• Trash cans are emptied daily by our friendly cleaning staff.
7. Does Mawimbi have a pool?
No, we do not have a pool at Mawimbi.
However, the beaches on Holbox offer calm, clear and shallow waters that create a serene and inviting swimming experience. The warm temperatures and gentle waves make it a perfect spot for a relaxing swim.
8. Do the rooms have televisions?
No, there are no televisions in our rooms. Some restaurants and bars on Holbox do have televisions, and some of them occassionally stream live sporting events. However, we cannot guarantee what games or programs will be aired, so we just want to make you aware of this before visiting.
We do offer free WiFi to our guests, so you may be able to stream videos if that’s important to you.
9. Does Mawimbi have Free WiFi?
Yes, we do offer free WiFi for our guests. Please understand that Holbox is an island, and we cannot guarantee high speed internet for the duration of your stay. Most guests find our internet to be adequate for text messaging, browsing the internet, posting to social media, and streaming videos, but island life also includes occasional downtime.
10. Does México use American-style or European-style electric outlets?
México uses American-style electric outlets. At Mawimbi, all of our rooms are equipped with American-style electric outlets, and some of our rooms also include USB, USBC and European-style outlets.
